Islamic City of Marawi (2 December) -- "Stand up and be counted in protecting our environment!"
This challenge was made yesterday by Dr. Mary Joyce Sali, faculty of Mindanao State University (MSU) - College of Forestry and Environmental Studies and speaker-lecturer during the Civic and Social Responsibility Day of the five-day Lanao del Sur 1st Youth Leadership Summit (YLS).
The third day of the summit was highlighted by the planting of 1,000 seedlings of fruit-bearing trees at MSU Dairy Farm and the conduct of environmental protection forum at the Institute of Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM) Center.
The forum, attended by MSU students and Sangguniang Kabataan youth leaders of the entire province, was aimed to orient the participants on climate change and its effect and develop their social consciousness and responsibility towards environment protection and community development.
The forum made the participants realize their crucial role in preserving and protecting the environment.
Inspired by the theme, "Kabataan ng Lanao del Sur: Nagbubuklod at Pangungunahan ang Pagbabago Tungo sa Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran," this first-ever YLS in Lanao del Sur is a collaborative effort of the Philippine Army's 103rd Infantry Brigade (Haribon), the provincial government of Lanao del Sur, the National Youth Commission (NYC), and MSU-Marawi.
