Lumbatan, Lanao del Sur (19 March) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo witnessed yesterday, March 18, the signing of memorandum of agreement between the National Nutrition Council (NNC) and the Department of Health in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOH-ARMM) for the establishment of a nutrition office similar to the NNC to oversee, coordinate and implement the nutrition projects and activities in the region.
The nutrition office will also implement the projects and activities under the Promote Good Nutrition (PGN) component of the Accelerated Hunger-Mitigation Program (AHMP) in the ARMM provinces which includes Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, Basilan and Tawi-Tawi.
Launched in 2007 in 54 priority provinces, cities and municipalities, the AHMP is one of the banner programs of President Arroyo to reduce hunger incidence, poverty and malnutrition problems in the country.
The MOA signing was held at the Lanao Technical College with NNC Assistant Secretary Maria Bernardita Flores and DOH-ARMM Secretary Kadil Jojo Sinolinding, Jr as signatories.
Acting ARMM Governor Ansarrudin Adiong and Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. were also present to witness the signing.
