MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, Sept. 24 (PIA) – More than 300 conflict-affected families in 16 different barangays in Datu Piang town in Maguindanao will benefit from farm equipment provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DSWD-ARMM) as part of its livelihood support under the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (Pamana) program.
The agency distributed sets of farm equipment to 16 cooperatives with a combined worth of P4.8-million. The set included a rice thresher, corn sheller, hand tractor (kuliglig) and floating tiller (bao-bao).
Rahima Datumanong-Alba, DSWD-ARMM assistant secretary for operations said the livelihood assistance is part of the help being provided by the government to families displaced by armed conflicts in the area.
Alba said the 16 recipient cooperatives are composed mainly of internally displaced families.
“We want to help them rebuild their lives and start over,” she said.
Datu Piang Mayor Genuine Kamaong thanked the ARMM government during the turn-over ceremony.
"We are grateful to the Hataman administration for the development programs they have provided to our people,” he said.
The 16 communities included in Pamana’s farm-based livelihood project are the barangays of Alonganen, Ambadao, Balanaken, Balong, Buayan, Dado, Damabalas, Duaminanga, Kalipapa, Kanguan, Magasiong, Masigay, Montay, Poblacion, Reina Regente and Kitapok . (Bureau of Public Information-ARMM/PIA-10)
