MARAWI
CITY, Lanao del Sur, April 23 (PIA) --- The Department of Science and
Technology in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOST-ARMM)
conducted an orientation and signing of agreement for the 29 new
scholars in the province.
The Scholarship Orientation and
Signing of Scholarship Agreement was conducted in partnership with the
Provincial Government on Monday, April22, at the Provincial Capitol
Social Hall.
Provincial Science and Technology Director
Payongan Pili said the activity was aimed to brief the new scholars and
their parents on the terms and conditions of the scholarship agreement
particularly on the benefits of the DOST scholarship programs and the
obligations of the scholars.
Twenty-eight of the scholars qualified under the Republic Act 7687 Program while one passed the Merit Scholarship Program.
Abdulrahim
Abdullah, regional scholarship coordinator, said the scholars will
receive tuition subsidy, monthly stipend and book allowance.
He said the scholars can pursue four or five year college degree in priority science and technology fields.
They
can enroll in state universities and colleges and other higher
education institutions recognized by the Commission on Higher Education
as Centers of Excellence or Centers of Development, he said.
The DOST scholarship programs aims to provide scholarships to poor, talented and deserving students.
The
scholars are the required to render service in the country along their
fields of specialization after graduation for a period equivalent to the
number of years they enjoyed the scholarship as a return service.
