MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, Oct. 7 (PIA) –- The Department of Science and Technology in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOST-ARMM) will be signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Muslim Mindanao Halal Certification Board Inc. and Halal International Chamber of Commerce and Industries of the Philippines, Inc.
The MoU will strengthen the collaboration between DOST-ARMM and the two halal-certifying bodies on halal promotion.
Both are halal-certifiers accredited by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF).
The MoU signing will be held during the first ARMM Halal Congress on October 9 at Alnor Convention Hall in Cotabato City in line with the celebration of the National Science and Technology Week,
Halal means permissible and Islam requires Muslims to consume only halal foods and drinks.
Halal products are entirely free of pork, alcohol and, in case of meat, specifically poultry and livestock, slaughtered in accordance with what is prescribed in Islam.
Many commodities, both food and non-food items, sold in the domestic market are now halal-certified. (BPI/APB/PIA-10)
