“We are doing this as a way to win the hearts and the minds of the people and show them the role of every member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in community building,” said Lt. Col. Ceasar Marlon M. Yadao, Commander of 5IB, also called the “Fuerte Uno” Battalion.
Yadao said the campaign of the AFP to help in such endeavor is also geared towards attaining lasting peace through its new Campaign Plan Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP) “BAYANIHAN.”
“We want the people and the other government agencies in our AOR to know that 5IB is with them in the fight against illegal activities of some individuals, especially, on the illegal drugs trrade and anti-illegal logging,” he said.
Meanwhile, 1Lt. Emil Charlie B. Jaudian, Civil Military Operations (CMO) Officer of 51IB said activities in their campaign included the conduct of a series of film showings about the ill effects of drugs to a person using it, and how global warming affects the temperature of the earth resulting in climate change.
Also included are films showing the horrible effects of illegal logging to the people and to the community and concerns for environmental protection and conservation.
These activities were conducted in the different high schools in the second district of Lanao del Sur, namely:
Spencer Foundation National High School in Malabang, last July 1, Pualas National High School in Pualas, July 2, and San Isidro National High School in Balabagan, July 3.
Felix A, Panganiban Academy of the Philippines in Malabang, July 13, Kapatagan National High School, Kapatagan, July 14, Lanao Agricultural College, in Lumbatan, July 19, and Gannasi National High School, in Gannasi, July 26.
Particularly, the purpose of the said symposium/information drives is to encourage the youth to participates in the government massive campaign against these illegal activities that if not prevented will escalate and destroy not only today’s generation but also the generations to come,Jaudian added.
