MARAWI
CITY, Lanao del Sur, March 3 (PIA) --- The important role that
barangays play in fire safety and prevention was underscored by
Provincial Governor Mamintal A. Adiong Jr. during the kick-off ceremony
of the Fire Prevention Month observance.
Adiong said he
plans to gather the leaders of the 1,156 barangays in the entire
province for a seminar and lecture on fire prevention and how to
organize fire volunteers within their barangays.
He said
this is part of his support to the intensified fire prevention drive of
the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to make the province fire-free.
The
Governor also lauded barangay Raya Madaya in the city for being an
active partner in fire safety and rescue efforts. Raya Madaya is the
only barangay in Marawi City equipped with a fire truck and with
volunteers.
Fire Supt. Adam A. Guiamad, regional director
of the BFP in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) said the
role of barangays in fire safety and prevention was recognized under
Republic Act 9514. He said barangay leaders are required to organize
volunteers within their respective areas. (JNY & APB/PIA-10)
