Lanao del Sur holds Food Security Summit

The 1st Lanao del Sur Food Security Summit was held in the Social Hall, Provincial Capitol, Marawi City on December 5, 2016. 

Participants were from different local groups and sectors such as the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, government line agencies, cooperatives, NGOs, Civil Society and local government units.

Governor Soraya Alonto Adiong, said one of the main goals of her administration is to alleviate, if not eradicate, poverty in the province, a tough task for a first-timer in public service. 

She said the accomplishments left behind by her predecessor, Vice Governor Mamintal Bombit Alonto Adiong, Jr., will lessen the burden for her due to the programs and projects he initiated and implemented such as farm-to-market roads, irrigation projects, and the INREMP. 

She said the Food Security Summit shall help her administration in their quest to eliminate poverty. 

Governor Adiong also assured the participants of the summit that their inputs and contributions in the summit will be used as part of her Provincial Poverty Eradication Agenda.

Dr. Habib W. Macaayong, President of Mindanao State University main campus said peace and order is one of the reasons why people from Lanao del Sur is suffering from food insecurity and poverty. “People in Lanao should help one another. For a better Lanao del Sur, we need the cooperation of the people of Lanao," he added.

The summit participants were also given a copy of the Executive Order No.03  which created the Task Force for Fishery and Agricultural Development (TAFFAD), a body tasked to coordinate with provincial government offices to facilitate the effective and efficient delivery of services and assistance for fishery and agricultural development.
