LGU Marawi recognizes women's contribution to city's progress



MARAWI CITY (PIA) -- The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Marawi City recently honored outstanding women whose significant contributions have greatly influenced the city's progress.


During a Thanksgiving Iftar hosted by the city government on March 27 at Marawi Convention Center, Mayor Majul Gandamra expressed appreciation for these exceptional women, emphasizing their exemplary leadership, unwavering commitment, and selflessness that have not only inspired many but have also laid the groundwork for future generations.


The mayor also highlighted their legacy as a testament to the invaluable role women play and underscored the importance of fostering opportunities for gender equality and empowerment.


Underscoring the profound impact these women have had on the city's development, Gandamra remarked, "On this occasion of Thanksgiving, Iftar, we pay homage to these extraordinary women who have not only been the pillars of our families but have also played a significant role in shaping our society. They have led with empathy, compassion, and drive and have brought positive change to our beloved city."




The ceremony recognized several individuals, including former provincial governor Bae Hadja Soraya M. Alonto-Adiong, former city mayor Bae Omelkhair M. Basman, Judge Wenida Papandayan, Regional Prosecutor Rohairah "Kookai" A. Lao, City Schools Division Superintendent Anna Zenaida A. Unte-Alonto, Marawi Compensation Board Chairperson Maisara Dandamun-Latiph, LASURECO Manager Nordjiana L. Dipatuan-Ducol, and Amai Pakpak Medical Center Chief Shalimar S. Sani-Rakiin.


Other honorees were Bae Samina Macabando-Basman, Bae Norlaine M. Capal-Ampaso, Bae Nonie L. Lao, Bae Padoman G. Paporo, Bae Norhata Macatbar-Alonto, Bae Baicon Cayongcat-Nuska, Bae Yasmira Naga Pangadapun, Bae Labimombao A. D. Macabando, Bae Soraida M. Sabdullah, Bae Faridah P. Ali, Bae Sandra S. Macalangcom-Usman, Bae LTC Sheryl R. Consulta, Bae Tarhata S. Mapandi, and Bae PLt. Alyssa Paglinawan.


Meanwhile, Gandamra emphasized the significance of this year's Women's Month theme, "Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas; Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan!" which advocates for the acknowledgment, celebration, and utilization of women's capabilities at the highest level, aiming to foster a just and progressive society in the new Philippines.


"Ang tema ay nananawagan sa ating lahat na kumilos at lumikha ng isang makatarungan at progresibong lipunan sa bagong Pilipinas, kung saan ang mga kakayahan ng mga kababaihan ay kinikilala, ipinagdiriwang, at ginagamit sa pinakamataas na antas," he said.
