MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, April 3 (PIA) --- The Mindanao State University (MSU) here through the Division of Student Affairs Guidance Counseling and Testing Section (GCTS) conducted a job fair for graduating students and its alumni to help them find suitable jobs locally or abroad.
Dubbed as Job Fair 2011, more than 200 participated in the 2-day event held at the Dimaporo Gymnasium inside the MSU campus last April 1 and 2.
Dr. Catherine C. Alicante, guidance specialist and head of GCTS, said the primary purpose of the job fair was to assist graduating students in finding jobs rather than letting them go to other places and spend so much time and money looking for jobs.
She also stressed that the applicants are assured that there will be no problem on illegal recruitment since the overseas agencies that they invited are really registered with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
The agencies present during the activity included Placewell International Services Corporation, Pacific Mediterranean International Manpower Agency, Inc. and Horus International Recruitment Agency while the local companies included Globe Telecommunications, Federal Express and Air21.
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) also participated in the job fair since some of the jobs require skills training from TESDA which will also serve as an experience, Alicante added.
Prior to the job fair, a seminar was also held from 8 am-12 nn last April 1 to equip and prepare the applicants with the necessary tools in looking for a job.
Tips in searching and how to apply for a certain job, as well as, entrepreneurship were discussed during the seminar, so that in the case the applicant will not be able to land a job through employment, he/she can have an alternative to earn income by simply engaging in business.
