Six MILF rebels lay down firearms

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, March 1 (PIA) -- Six Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels have decided to lay down their firearms.

Lt. Col. Dario Bucawit, commanding officer of the 64th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, disclosed that the six rebels, coming from the MILF’s 102 Base Command, brought with them firearms and ammunitions when they surrendered to the Battalion’s Bravo Company in Piagapo town.

The firearms surrendered included one M16A1 rifle, one M653 carbine, two M1 Garand rifle, two M2 carbine, and assorted magazine and ammunitions.

The returnees and their firearms were presented by Bucawit to First Infantry (Tabak) Division Commander Brigadier General Ricardo Rainier Cruz III during his visit to the province on Tuesday.

Bucawit also disclosed that the surrender was facilitated by former Piagapo Mayor and now Association of Barangay Chairman President Amroussi Macatanong.

Macatanong said the returnees, led by Toma, admitted that they were tired of hiding in the mountains and being away from their family.

“They see changes and hope with the present administration so they decided to lay down their arms,” he said.
