MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, Nov. 13
(PIA) --- To promote the importance of statistics, the Regional Statistics
Coordination Committee of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (RSCC-ARMM)
conducted the regional finals of the 24th Philippine Statistics Quiz on
November 10.
Eleven students from different
colleges and universities in the ARMM competed in the event. The participating
schools included the Mindanao State University (MSU) – Marawi City,
MSU-Maguindanao, MSU- Sulu, Notre Dame of Jolo College, and the Upi
Agricultural School –Provincial Technical Institute of Agriculture (UPS-PTIA).
Suod Barodi, interim regional
director of PSA-ARMM, said the annual event is “designed to test students on
their knowledge on statistics.” He said it “aims to instill the value of
statistics among them and to measure the effectiveness of high school
statistics curriculum.”
Josua Diaz from the UPS-PTIA
bagged the championship title while Hanna Sansarona from MSU – Marawi City and
Jason Diamante of MSU-Maguindanao landed on the 1st runner-up and
2nd runner-up, respectively. Each of the winners received a medal, a
trophy and a cash prize.
Diaz, 17, who is taking up
Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Technology, Livelihood and Education
(T.L.E.), said he took “immense review and practice before the activity.”
He will represent the ARMM in the
National Statistics Quiz on December 8, 2015 in Manila. He said he
will study hard and will try his best to land on top in the national round of
the quiz.
The RSCC-ARMM is an
inter-agency committee that sets policies on statistical matters. It is headed
by the ARMM’s Regional Planning and Development Office (RPDO-ARMM) and
co-chaired by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-ARMM. (BPI/PIA-10)
