MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, Nov 4
(PIA) --- In line with the observance of the Malaria Awareness this November,
the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reminded the public on safety
measures to avoid getting malaria.
Dr. Nihaya Macasindil, medical
officer IV of the IPHO, said that even though the province has zero case of
malaria for the past 10 years it should not be taken lightly as some malaria
cases may be fatal.
Once the malaria is severe and not
treated immediately, it can lead to death, she said during the Ozor Ka, Ranao
radio program of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).
Macasindil encourages the public
to keep their homes and surroundings clean to get rid of mosquito carrying
malaria.
She said protecting oneself from
mosquito bites can lessen chances of contacting several mosquito-borne diseases
such as dengue and malaria.
When in travel, it is also advisable
to seek for doctor’s advice once sick.
She said all symptoms of malaria
can be attributed also to other illnesses such as jaundice, headache, vomiting,
and fever among others. Thus it is highly recommended that when one has fever,
he/she must seek for immediate checkup.
Ozor ka, Ranao! is aired every
first and third Monday of the month, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., over 99.7 MHz
DXSO Radyo ng Bayan Marawi FM. The program aims to provide information and
updates on various government development programs and projects in the
province. (Johaniah N. Yusoph/APB/PIA-10)
