MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, Nov. 4
--- Stakeholders from various government agencies and private organizations
here have committed to support local media practitioners in reporting
accurate information for peaceful and honest (PH) elections come 2016.
They signified their commitment
during the multi-stakeholders conference held at Marawi Resort Hotel on
November 1.
Judge Abuali Cali of the Ulama
League of the Philippines said media plays a critical role in peace dialogues
citing the on-going peace talk between the Philippine Government and the Moro
Islamic Liberation Front where media helps in informing the public on the
salient features of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.
Minalang Barapantao Sr., former
station manager of Radyo ng Bayan - Marawi, reminded media practitioners on the
importance of accurate and responsible reporting.
He said media practitioners should
convey proper and up-to-date information to the public without hiding the
truth. “Do not attack the person directly rather attack the bad action,” he added.
The multi-stakeholders conference
for PH 2016 elections was organized by the newly established Marawi
Broadcasters’ Association (MBA), a group of broadcasters based in Marawi City
aiming to strengthen the delivery of relevant, timely and truthful information
to the public.
The conference was highlighted by
the induction of the Board of Directors and Officers of the MBA administered by
the Atty. Omar Macapaar, President of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines -
Lanao del Sur Chapter.
PTV-4 anchor, Princess Habiba
Sarip, also graced the conference and was inducted as an honorary member of the
association.
