MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, Feb. 3 (PIA) --- The Integrated
Provincial Health Office (IPHO) warns parents on the adverse impact of
Soil-Transmitted Helminthiasis (STH) on the nutritional status of children.
Dr. Alinader Minalang, IPHO Lanao del Sur chief, said STH or
intestinal worm infections cause micronutrient deficiencies leading to poor
growth and development among infected children.
Minalang said children can be protected against STH by giving
them deworming tablets at least twice a year.
The Department of Health (DOH) in partnership with the
Department of Education (DepED) conducted on January 27, 2016 the second round
of the nationwide school deworming day to ensure that more children will be
spared from STH for better health and school performance.
Aside from deworming,
Minalang said teaching children proper personal hygiene and providing them
access to clean water supply and sanitary facilities also help in reducing the
prevalence of intestinal worm infections. (APB/PIA-10)
