Marawi schools prep for new school year with Brigada Eskwela

The city schools division here is now gearing up as thousands of their teachers and learners at the basic education level are set to welcome another school year.

As such, an intensified preparation has kicked off following the launch of this year’s Brigada Eskwela with the theme, “Bayanihan para sa Matatag na Paaralan.” The week-long activity commenced on August 14 and will end on August 19, this year.

Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Anna Zenaida Unte Alonto underscored that Brigada Eskwela would amplify the Bayanihan spirit of Filipinos as parents and academic personnel would join forces to beautify schools and secure an environment conducive to learning.

Accordingly, in the duration of their one-week preparation, division supervisors are tasked to directly monitor their adopted schools, especially the removal of all unnecessary decorations in the classrooms.

This is according to issued Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 21 series of 2023 which commands that classrooms are cleared from stockpile materials and not utilized for disposal of unused items, with the walls maintained as bare and devoid of posters and other materials, and painted with the prescribed color.

Apart from enforcing tidiness in their learning environment, Alonto likewise raised a challenge for every teacher in her division to advocate for the cleanliness of themselves, and the realization of their responsibilities as they are all accountable officials who have mandates to uphold.

Among the duties she specified were observing punctuality when reporting to the office and preparing data, and strengthening their partnership with other stakeholders, especially the local government units (LGUs).

With the grand start of the Brigada Eskwela, Alonto looked forward to more years ahead when they could hold the same event successfully.

“I hope we can have more Brigada Eskwela and see further improvement in our school,” she said.

Meanwhile, Division Brigada Eskwela Coordinator Tanjirea Mascara was positive that this year’s preparations would run smoothly and successfully, just as last year’s event ended.

She is confident that teachers under her division are already ready for the opening of another school year.

“Laging preparado sila. Kahit bakasyon, andiyan sila sa schools to monitor,” said Mascara.

(They are always prepared. Even if it's vacation, they are in school to monitor.)

The Brigada Eskwela coordinator also thanked the teaching workforce of her division for their endless dedication in readying for a new school year. She hoped the days ahead would be fruitful for everyone, especially the learners. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
