Muslims affirm PH’s first Islamic law dictionary banners justice, compassion


With the Philippines attaining another exceptional milestone for publishing its first Islamic Law Dictionary, Muslims, particularly those coming from Lanao del Sur province, were exalted to magnify that the mentioned book fosters and moves for impartiality and benevolence. 

Lawyer Maisara Dandamun-Latiph, a former Member of Parliament (MP) with the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) who now serves as the Chairperson of the Marawi Compensation Board (MCB), emphasized that the newly released dictionary promotes appreciation among various cultures. She said it [dictionary] embraces a spirit of inclusivity that welcomes individuals from diverse religions and races to enrich their understanding of Islamic concepts.

She stressed that in this creation, a reader would comprehend that Shari’ah promotes justice and compassion rather than hatred.

Reflecting on the derogatory remarks the city here has been receiving since the 2017 warfare, Latiph also emphasized that every citizen of the locality should comprehend and put this in their hearts, as otherwise, all the beneficial knowledge pushed by the book would be rendered useless by the acts and consequences that they do and see in their environment. 

“I hope the book will bring understanding because the Islamic law teaches about compassion, kindness, and humanity. I hope this book will contribute to the rebuilding and healing of our people,” she said.

Latiph er attested that Shari’ah counselors never had dictionaries, and the newly launched Islamic Law Dictionary is the first of its kind. 

With this, she looked forward to the possibility that this would not be the last Islamic book to be published, seeing the need to produce more, considering that vocabularies are not limited. 

Former Muslim senatorial bet Samira Gutoc likewise affirmed that the Islamic Law Dictionary is a remarkable contribution to the literature. 

She said this is a commune, acknowledging that the people behind the realization of this book were not just simply authors and writers but advocates who came together as one community. 

Gutoc explained that in this book, Filipinos wanted to tell the world that Tugaya, Islamic, Moro and Muslim voices are also part of the community and could be a potent element to transition into a better society.
