Marawi youth leaders undergo orientation on constituency building for peace, governance

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, January 2 (PIA) --- Around 40 selected fourth year high school students here have undergone a three-day orientation and workshop on youth leadership and constituency-building for peace and governance.

Organized by the Al-Mujadilah Development Foundation, Inc. (AMDF) with the support of the Enhancing Governance, Accountability and Engagement (ENGAGE) Project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the orientation-workshop held last week in Marawi Resort Hotel was intended to generate youth’s perception and understanding of peace and good governance.

AMDF Executive Director Zahria M. Mapandi said the orientation-workshop was aimed at helping high school students realize their crucial role as stakeholders and actors of peace and good governance.

It also sought to validate social issues being experienced by youth which are barriers to their active participation in the community, she said.

Mapandi said the three-day activity focused mainly on leadership and constituency-building for peace and good governance.

Leadership because the participants were potential youth leaders and constituency building because we wanted them to reach out to their classmates and fellow youth and share to them the action plans they formulated for the betterment of Marawi City and Lanao del Sur, she said.

A network of youth leaders was meanwhile created to serve as catalyst to sustain local initiatives on peace and good governance in the city.

Founded in 1994, AMDF is a non-profit, non-government organization (NGO) with 70 active women doing research services, community works, and promoting advocacies on gender justice, community development, peace, and good governance.
