MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Dr. Acram Latiph, the director of the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao Office (IPDM) of the Mindanao State University (MSU)-Main Campus here, conveyed his realization that the most precious achievement anyone can obtain in his entire life is gaining peace for himself and the society where he belongs.

He stated that surviving in this world entails encountering a lot of struggles and obtaining various successes but above anything else is acquiring the highest price anyone could ever measure, peace.

Latiph added that if only one could take a grip on this, more positivity would then follow, eventually leading to the desired progress.

“It turns out that the most important thing anyone can achieve in life is the ability to have peace within yourself and the community. Every positive thing like development and economic growth will spur with peace,” he said.

Bishop Edwin Dela Peña affirmed this as he stressed the vital existence of peace in a community.

Contextualizing such a topic, he conveyed that building peace in the locality is a continuing process.

He cited that as the city suffered from the siege in 2017 which led to the displacement of many residents, restoring peace is a great challenge that needs to be worked on.

Nonetheless, Dela Peña was optimistic that with the affected citizens slowly heading back to their old homes in ground zero, a lasting peace is also bound to happen.

“The task of peacebuilding in Marawi always involves the process of allowing the residents of ground zero to return to their place to rebuild their lives, properties and livelihood. This is something that we can always dream about but we also need to work together,” said Dela Peña. (CRG/PIA10/-Lanao del Sur)
