The local government unit (LGU) here has now taken control of the completed Marawi Convention Center located at the heart of the most affected area of this Islamic city.
This, as the implementing agency, National Housing Authority (NHA), led the ceremonial turnover of the infrastructure to Mayor Majul Gandamra during the recently held inter-agency meeting of the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM).
Accordingly, the convention center lies on a one-hectare land and is equipped with amenities, including one parking lot and exhibiting center, eight meeting rooms, two conference rooms, and an 826-seating capacity auditorium.
NHA-Region 9 and BARMM Regional Director and Marawi Satellite Office (MSO) Head Engr. Al-Khawarizmi Indanan underlined that this project was intended to manifest the rising of a once-oppressed locality.
With the foundation of this facility, he was positive that it would be a means to advance an upgraded city.
“I hope that the Marawi Convention Center can help the city government promote what modern Marawi City can offer to the entire Philippines and the world,” said Indanan.
Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Assistant Secretary for TFBM Melissa Aradanas also looked forward to the city government fostering the infrastructure, especially since she affirmed that this would picture the determination of the government to finish the rehabilitation program here.
“Sa pagtanggap ng naturang proyekto, kalakip nito ang aming habilin na pangalagaan at siguraduhing ito ay lubos na mapapakinabangan ng mga residente ng Marawi, partikular na ang mga naninirahan sa most affected area,” she said.
(Together with the acceptance of this project is our reminder to take care of this, and ensure that this would be utilized by the residents of Marawi, particularly those living in the most affected area.)
Meanwhile, Gandamra was delighted to assume the administration of their convention center.
He stressed that accepting this was a milestone not only for his locality but for residents as well who have endured challenges throughout the years.
Gandamra saw this as a turning point in their journey towards recovery and progress, recognizing this as a symbol of hope, unity, and resilience, and holding the promise of bringing people together to foster collaborations and uplift the spirits of each one of them.
However, alongside their welcoming of the convention center was also his acknowledgment of the responsibility that they should deliver for the aspirations of his constituents.
“We must utilize this to the fullest, and ensure that they serve the needs of our people. Moving forward, let us continue working hand-in-hand with government agencies and private institutions to bring about positive change, sustainable development, and a better future for all of us. Together, we will lay a foundation for a vibrant and prosperous Marawi, a city that stands as a shining example of resilience, harmony and peace,” said Gandamra. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur
