The Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur received a new speedboat from the Bangsamoro government to aid in the emergency response operations of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
The speedboat was turned over to the provincial government in a ceremony held Wednesday, December 13, at the Provincial Capitol Grounds this city.
Powered with outboard engines made in Japan, the speedboat has GPS ONWA Marine Radar. Former Member of Parliament (MP) Musa Diamla sponsored the well-equipped boat under his 2021 Transitional Development Impact Fund (TDIF),
Diamla said he opted to utilize some of his TDIF for the speedboat to help boost the capability of the PDRRMO in responding to emergencies and disasters.
The former MP also hopes that more local governments in the province will continue to benefit from the development fund of Parliament members, especially those MPs from Lanao del Sur.
PDRRMO Head Shaminoden Sambitory conveyed his gratitude to the Bangsamoro government and the former MP for the vessel, citing it as essential in calamity response.
"Mauutilize natin siya sa mga response operations sa may Lake Lanao dahil may mga drowning incidents tayo ng mga capsized boat (we can utilize it in response operations near Lake Lanao because we have drowning incidents of capsized boats)," Sambitory said.
Earlier, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications of the Bangsamoro government announced that it procured five units of speedboats through the 2021 TDIF of MPs Hadji Nabil Tan, Abraham Burahan, Musa Diamla, and Eduard Guerra. The total project cost was P12.5 million contracted under Stoneworks Specialist International Corporation.
Accordingly, three speedboats were for island municipalities in Sulu, one for Lanao del Sur PDRRMO, and the other one was for Bantay Dagat Lusain, an anti-illegal fishing group in Barangay Lusain, Kapatagan in Lanao del Sur, which was chosen as the recipient of MP Guerra to help protect Kapatagan town from illegal fishing.
