PSA hands over 2022 CBMS data to Butig town

MARAWI CITY -- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)- Lanao del Sur has turned over the comprehensive dataset from the 2022 Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) to the local government unit (LGU) of Butig in Lanao del Sur in a ceremony held on February 12 at the town's municipal hall.

PSA-BARMM OIC Regional Director Engr. Akan Tula, PSA-Lanao del Sur OIC-Chief Statistical Specialist Mohammadali Alonto, Mayor Dimnatang Pansar, Sangguniang Bayan Members, and Punong Barangay representing the 16 villages in Butig involved in the CBMS rollout attended the handover ceremony.

Republic Act No. 11315 mandates the CBMS as an innovative technology-driven system for collecting, processing, and validating disaggregated data. It is essential for effective planning, program execution, and impact assessment at the grassroots level while fostering community engagement.

The locally generated data serves as a basis for targeting households for planning, budgeting, and implementing government initiatives aimed at poverty alleviation and economic progress.

CBMS focal Yasrulah Sheik underscored the importance of CBMS, highlighting its role in empowering residents to participate in planning and monitoring local development initiatives.

He said CBMS aids in crafting socioeconomic profiles, development plans, resource allocation strategies, and identifying eligible beneficiaries, enabling LGUs to formulate tailored programs and interventions.

The rollout of the 2022 CBMS targeted fifth- and sixth-income class cities and municipalities, as well as areas that do not have income classifications yet. In Lanao del Sur, ten LGUs participated in the implementation, with Butig being one of the areas to complete the turnover of data.

The other participating LGUs are Bayang (5 barangays selected), Calanogas (6 barangays), Lumbatan (7 barangays), Lumbaca-Unayan (all barangays), Masiu (6 barangays), Tamparan (6 barangays), Tugaya (6 Barangays), Pualas (6 barangays), and Sultan Dumalondong (all barangays).

In 2024, the PSA-funded CBMS will cover all first- and sixth-income class cities and municipalities, including areas awaiting income classification. Significantly, it will integrate the mid-decade census of population, expanding the depth and scope of data collection.(APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
