Islamic City of Marawi (03 September) – Malacañang declared September 10 (Friday) as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid'l Fitr.
President Benigno Simeon Aquino III has signed Proclamation No. 26 to give way for the celebration of the Muslim feast that marks the end of Ramadhan.
Ramadhan is a holy month in the Islamic lunar calendar where Muslims across the globe fast from dawn to sunset every day. It is the time where they refocus their attention to God and practice self-sacrifice.
Proclamation 26 stresses the religious and cultural significance of Eid'l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness promoting cultural understanding and integration as well as giving the entire Filipino nation the full opportunity to join Muslim brothers and sisters in the celebration.
Eid'l Fitr is celebrated by Muslim communities for three days after the end of the month of fasting.
The start of the feast falls on the first day of Shawwal, the month that follows Ramadhan. In accordance with the Islamic lunar calendar, the date has been determined to fall on September 10.
