Islamic City of Marawi (28 September) -- Two (2) persons were arrested here in violation of the COMELEC gun ban, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
Police Superintendent Cosanie M. Derogongan, Lanao del Sur PNP Director, disclosed that Samad Natangcop and Salic Managsa Batawi were separately apprehended by police elements while conducting COMELEC checkpoint operations.
According to him, Natangcop, 32 years old and a resident of Barangay Tolali was arrested around 10:45pm of September 26 along Gomisa Avenue in Barangay Banggolo while Batawi, 32 years old and a resident of Barangay Datu Saber was arrested around 6:30pm of September 27 in Barangay Kilala detachment.
Taken from Natangcop was Caliber.45 pistol M1911A1 bearing serial number 818359 with one (1) magazine and three (3) live ammos, Derogongan said.
On the other hand, an M16 Rifle Caliber 5.56 bearing serial number 9021961 with one (1) magazine and seventeen (17) live ammos were confiscated from Batawi, he added.
He further said the recovered firearms were held at the custody of the provincial police headquarters and a case on the violation of the COMELEC gun ban will be filed against the arrested suspects.
