MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The local government of Wao in Lanao del Sur province has partnered with interfaith leaders from across the municipality to leverage support for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination rollout.
In an episode of Network Briefing News, Wao mayor Elvino "Bino" Balicao Jr. said they held an interfaith meeting with religious groups in the municipality to explain the vaccination program and get the support of the religious sector to encourage Wao residents to get vaccinated.
Balicao said there were religious groups before that were a bit hesitant about the vaccination program because of the fake news circulating on social media.
The mayor said they have convinced the religious leaders by explaining the vaccination program and inoculating local officials to prove that the vaccines are safe.
"Yun nakumbinse po namin sila..., nag tuloy-tuloy na yung pagbakuna kasi mainfluence sila sa mga grupo nila, yung mga tao nila, pag sila ang nabukaahan syempre susunod ang mga tao nila," he added.
[So we have convinced them ..., the vaccination continued because they are influential to their groups, their people. When they are vaccinated, of course, their people will follow.]
Per latest report from the Integrated Provincial Health Office, Wao ranks first among the top-performing municipalities in Lanao del Sur in the vaccination rollout with 9,101 individuals vaccinated as of September 26, 2021. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
