MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Access roads can play a crucial role not only in promoting economic development in the countryside but also in securing peace in marginalized and far-flung communities.
In an episode of Network Briefing News, Wao mayor Elvino "Bino" Balicao Jr. underscored the importance of access roads and farm-to-market roads in sustaining peace and security in the municipality.
"Kapag mayroong access road seguro yung nasa kaliwa nating mga kapatid mahikayat natin sila na magbalik loob dito sa gobyerno dahil maaaddress natin yung mga problema nila lalong-lalo na sa mga daan,... mabigyan sila ng magandang market at daan para maideliver nila ang produkto nila on time," he said.
[If there is an access road, surely the leftist will be encouraged to return to the government because we can address their problems, especially on the roads,.. we can provide them a good market and a way for them to deliver their products on time.]
The mayor also said that newly-completed access roads have shortened travel time from Wao to other municipalities and cities in Mindanao.
These roads included the government constructed Alamada-Wao road, Cagayan de Oro-Talakag-Wao road, and the Marawi via Maguing to Amai Manabilang and Wao road.
The Network Briefing News was organized by the Philippine Information Agency and produced by Philippine Broadcasting Service that brings together local government heads, national government agencies, and local media entities to discuss issues and initiatives relevant to carrying on amidst the pandemic.
