Marawi IDPs thankful to claim DSWD’s TFSP

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Internally displaced persons (IDPs) expressed gratitude for finally claiming the Transitory Family Support Package from the Department of Social Welfare and Development which was distributed in 2019.

Alingan Mohsien, who used to live in Brgy Sabala Manao 1 inside the most affected area (MAA), shared that he participated in Kathanor (profiling of IDPs) in 2019 but did not expect that there will be assistance given to them. He then decided to find livelihood opportunities in Boracay where he sold some souvenirs. However, he came back to Marawi in January this year after knowing that he is one of those IDPs who were not able to claim TFSP in 2019. He opened a mini store using the earning from his livelihood ventures in Boracay.

“Siyempre malaking tulong ito kasi madadagdagan ko na negosyo ko, necessities namin, at panggatas ng anak ko,” he said.

[Ofcourse this is a big help since this will be an additional capital to my business, for our necessities, and for my children’s milk.]

He also called on the IDPs to not lose hope and to utilize the assistance given to them for improving their lives.

Meanwhile, Abdallah Mamocan Daud of Raya Madaya 1 expressed gratitude for finally receiving TFSP. He recounted that during the Kathanor profiling, her wife put Lomidong as their barangay despite having a house and lot in MAA. After recovering from sickness, Daud asked for help from Task Force Bangon Marawi and other agencies to correct their profile.

Daud is thankful to DSWD and TFBM for assisting him and for being approachable for inquiries. With the TFSP, he plans to buy a tricycle as his source of income. He also urged his fellow IDPs to remain patient despite the challenges they face.

“Kailangan tayo mag-sabr, magtiis kung talagang karapatdapat tayo na makakuha tay. Huwag magsawa sa panalangin sa Diyos,” he said.

[We need to have patience and perseverance if we deserve to receive assistance. Do not get tired of praying to God.] (LELA/PIA ICIC)
