Police urges community involvement in crime prevention

Islamic City of Marawi (05 July) --- Police authorities here called on members of the local community to take active part in the fight against criminal activities.

The appeal was made by both Lanao del Sur Police Director Senior Superintendent Paniares Adap and City Police Director Chief Inspector Mary Grace Madayag during the recent media forum on peace and development held in the provincial capitol, this city.

The provincial director said the police will not be successful in preventing crimes without the active participation of the community.

What is needed is the cooperation of the people and the community, without that participation we cannot deliver what you want us to do because we are only a part of the spectrum of the society, Adap said.

For her part, the city police director stressed that the community is most important pillar of the criminal justice system.

The other pillars are law enforcement, prosecution, judiciary and penology.
She specifically cited that the different non-government organizations and the media play a vital role in solving the peace and order problems.

Both police authorities urged the local residents to fully support their drive against crimes by reporting to the police any incidents of robbery, hold-up, kidnapping, carnapping, drug trafficking and other criminal activities in their respective barangays.
