MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, March 11 (PIA) --- The campaign against all forms of criminality in Lanao del Sur (LDS) is everybody’s concern.
This was pointed out by P/Sr. Supt. Rodolfo Llorca, Director of the LDS Provincial Police Office, during the provincial peace and order council (PPOC) meeting held here last March 9,
Llorca said that the fight against criminality cannot be ironed-out by the Philippine National Police (PNP) alone.
Rather, it needs an inter-agency approach with the support and active involvement of the community particularly those in the depressed and un-served communities which are usually the victims of illegal activities.
The new LSPPO Director bared the different crime prevention strategies that would lead to the deterrence all forms of criminalities in the area.
Among these strategies are the strengthening of police integrated patrol system (PIPS), community policing, opening channels of communications, community assessment, building partnership, and sports development.
He said the PIPS aims to intensify police visibility to ensure the safety of every person within the area through the conduct of checkpoints, area security, and 24/7 patrolling in crime zone areas and other strategic locations.
Community policing, on the other hand, is building a productive relationship between the police and the community through consultations that allows a venue for interaction between police and the people creating a clearer understanding of shared problems, priorities, expectations, and needs.
He also underscored the need to encourage camaraderie, good health and sound minds among the youth through sports development programs to prevent them from engaging in any nefarious activities.
Llorca, likewise, suggested the promotion of tourism in the city to project to the neighboring provinces, municipalities and cities that Marawi is a safe place to visit.
In the meantime, the LSPPO Chief stressed that peace and tranquility in the province would eventually improve with the security measures on hand and the support and cooperation of local government units, civil society organizations, traditional and religious leaders and the Philippine Army.(Apipa Bagumbaran/PIA10)
