MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, March 1 (PIA) -- Fire trucks sirens were sounded early this morning here in the city to signal the start of the Fire Prevention Month celebration.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here led the opening ceremony of the month-long celebration with the blowing of fire truck sirens and motorcade as early as 7 o’clock in the morning to urge residents to take part in the observance of fire prevention month.
Senior Fire Officer 1 Aminola Udasan, acting city fire marshal, said they have lined-up series of activities aimed at increasing the level of public awareness on fire safety and prevention.
He said they will be intensifying their information and education campaign to encourage the active support and participation of the community to keep the city safe from destructive fires to save lives and properties.
Part of the activities during the celebration are the holding of Ugnayan sa Barangay, conduct of fire prevention information campaign lectures and distribution of fire safety tips leaflets, as well as fire and rescue evacuation drills in selected schools and colleges.
Udasan further disclosed that they will also conduct inspection of public and private establishments including boarding houses and other high rise occupancies in the city to ensure compliance with the fire code standards.
The acting city fire marshal also reminded the public to be careful and keep watch against fire.
The month-long commemoration is a simultaneous activity observed by all fire personnel of the BFP nationwide every March of each year pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 115-A.
This year’s theme is “Kahandaan sa Sunog...Tungo sa Kaunlaran.” (Apipa Bagumbaran/PIA-10 Marawi)
