MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, March 11 (PIA) --- Members of the provincial peace and order council (PPOC), municipal mayors, and representatives from various sectors gathered here recently and discussed peace and security issues confronting the entire province.
Mamintal Alonto-Adiong Jr., Provincial Governor and Chairperson of the PPOC, said the meet aimed to reaffirm the commitment and vital roles of local governments and other stakeholders in resolving peace and security issues.
He expressed optimism that criminalities and bad elements in the province will be lessened, if not totally eradicated, through the united efforts of various stakeholders and the commitment of men-in-uniform in enforcing the law.
During the meeting, Col. Daniel Lucero, Commander of the 103rd Brigade, Philippine Army, introduced the Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP) “Bayanihan” of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) which focuses on winning the peace instead of defeating the enemies.
For his part, Sr. Supt. Rodolfo Llorca, newly-installed Lanao del Sur (LDS) Provincial Police Director, also bared the new action plan of the local police highlighting police community relations strategies in combating criminalities.
Other speakers during the meeting were Asst. Secretary Jehanne Mutin-Mapupuno, Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), who discussed the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) Program of the national government and Samira Gutoc-Tomawis of the Young Moro Professionals Network (YMPN), who shared inputs on seeking generational solutions to security.
In addition, Muhammad Khater of the Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) gave a brief overview of their activities as a member of the Civilian Protection Component of the International Monitoring Team (CPC-IMT).
Meanwhile, the provincial chapter of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) led by its President and Mayor of Poona Bayabao, Dr. Lampa Pandi, reiterated support to the peace initiatives of the provincial government and the men-in-uniform.
He also recommended the establishment of an effective justice system hand-in-hand with the strengthening of the educational system and provision of livelihood to the people in the province, among the ways, to minimize criminality in the area.
The first PPOC meeting for this year was highlighted by the signing of covenant to support the peace and development programs in LDS that would uplift the quality of lives of the people in the province.
The signatories, likewise, pledged to lead their constituents towards a peaceful community, free from kidnapping, drug abuse, drug trafficking and other forms of criminality which hinders the progress of their locality. (Apipa Bagumbaran/PIA-10 Marawi)
