MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, Mar. 3 (PIA) – To ensure that health workers in the province are healthy and empowered, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) here, recently, launched the “Search for the Biggest Loser in Lanao del Sur.”
With the theme "Be Healthy, Be a Loser,” the competition is open to all health workers both in public and private institutions throughout the province.
Dr. Alinader Minalang, IPHO head, said the body mass index of the participants will be measured to determine if they are obese, anorexic, or healthy.
The progress of their health status will be monitored on monthly basis and whoever gets the biggest reduction in weight after six months will be adjudged as the winner, he cited.
The competition, Minalang said, is a challenge to all health workers in the province to continuously live a healthy lifestyle.
It is part of their continuing advocacy for healthy lifestyle since weight management is one of the measures to prevent the incidence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) which is considered as one of the leading causes of death worldwide, he said.
The World Health Organization (WHO) considered CVD as a global epidemic causing about 35-million deaths every year globally. In the country alone, about 500,000 Filipinos are affected by CVD, he added.
The IPHO is also considering opening the search to the general public next year. (Apipa Bagumbaran/PIA-10 Marawi)
