IRW-Philippines Area Programme Manager Sittie-Jamairah Disomimba turns over the school support to the school administration of Gandamato Primary School in Ditsaan-Ramain, Lanao del Sur.
MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--Seven educational institutions consisting of three schools and four madaris benefited from the school support of the Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW)-Philippines through its Sustaining Transformative and Resilient Initiatives in Vulnerable Communities (STRIVEC) Project.
Funded by IRW-Canada, the three-year project adopts an integrated approach to promote sustainable development and enhance the resilience of identified communities through three thematic areas of intervention: education, sustainable livelihood, and disaster risk reduction.
"Itong education, it has many sub-components. For the learners, we provide an allowance for three years and school supplies. For the schools, we provide training for the teachers as well as office equipment," said IRW-Philippines Area Programme Manager Sittie-Jamairah Disomimba.
She said a budget of P1.3 million was allocated for the school supplies and office equipment while P3.0 million was set aside for the allowances of learners.
IRW-Philippines turned over on Monday, November 22, various school supplies, equipment, and furniture to Barimbingan Central Elementary School, Gandamato Primary School, and Madrasah Shamsiya Al-Islamiya.
Sultan Alauya Alonto Central Elementary School, Ma'had Naser Al-Islam Inc., Madrasah Lumbac Ramain Al-Islamiah, and Madrasah Al-Rashida Al-Islamiya received the same school support on Tuesday, November 23. All these institutions are located in the municipality of Ditsaan-Ramain, one of the identified host communities of internally displaced persons (IDP) from Marawi City.
Disomimba said the project is in partnership with Task Force Bangon Marawi which assisted in identifying three host communities. "Upon further evaluation, ito [Ditsaan-Ramain] yung pumasa (passed)," she added.
According to her, the items provided were all identified through consultation with the schools. "We conducted a TNA and ito yung basic na kailangan nila (these are the basics that they need) like printing materials, sound system, among others," she further said.
Apart from the seven educational institutions, the Schools Division of Lanao del Sur-I also received educational equipment and supplies from IRW-Philippines under the same project. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
