MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur --As mandated to boost the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development (MSMED) Council pursues the development for business entrepreneurs through a plotted plan and agenda.
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-10 Regional Director Ermedio Abang attended the Provincial MSMED Council Expo Thursday, November 26, and shared the success and best practices of the Northern Mindanao MSMED Council in facilitating the growth and development of MSMEs in the region.
In his presentation, he emphasized that the council’s plan highlights the initiatives of the national government in collaboration with the private sector, LGUs, and the academe in response measures to support MSMEs toward sustainable and resilient recovery steps.
“The MSME development plan provides the overall framework to implement a harder line approach to MSME development agenda. The plan and vision on more globally competitive MSMEs that are regionally integrated, resilient, sustainable and innovative thereby performing as key drivers of inclusive Philippine economic growth,” he said.
Abang reiterated the plan is grounded on the idea that the MSME sector is the country’s main engine of economic progress considering it paves the way for job creation, and an increase in investments, exports and assistance.
“Ninety-nine percent of enterprises in the Philippines is made up of MSMEs. This sector delivers jobs, and increases investments and exports, hence, generating an inclusive business. The plan has a blueprint for integration and collaboration of relevant government and private sector institutions for MSME development,” he said.
As such, the DTI, being the Chair of the council, integrated 7Ms for entrepreneurial development as strategic goals which consist of government mindset, money, mastery, mentoring, machines, models, and market.
These schemes are pushed with respective competitiveness programs to ensure improvement in the business climate, access to finance, market, innovation and technology, and enhancement of management and labor capacities.
In Region 10, part of this effort is the 100% establishment of Negosyo Centers in all cities and municipalities with a total count of 96 hubs wherein 89 are local government-based, five are DTI-based and one is academe. This is to offer MSMEs a wide array of business opportunities with coaching and training, registration services, advisory or counseling, product and market development, packaging and labeling, and information awareness.
Abang also mentioned that businesses impacted by the pandemic were assisted through the P3 COVID-19 Assistance to Restart Enterprises (CARES) Program where interested entrepreneurs may apply online through https://brs.sbgfc.org.ph while Youth Entrepreneurship Program was opened enjoining youth to venture into business wherein 3,572 have benefitted, 58 local cooperators were engaged, two youth organizations were founded and 41 youth joined business organizations.
He further shared the interventions for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), implementation of Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) and Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay, regular conduct of job and business fair, availment of Skills Training for Entrepreneurship and Employment Program (STEEP), upgrading of technology to bolster productivity through shared service facility (SSF) with this year’s P52.2 million approved budget and other more local innovations programs, and adoption of e-commerce wherein 6,521 MSMEs in Region 10 are on-board in its different platforms.
Currently, the MSMED Council plan continues to take effect and pursue its goals per its enactment that it shall aid the MSMEs in the region and the country in general. (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Sur)
