DTI Special Concerns Undersecretary Ameenah Fajardo stressed that the growing population of Muslims worldwide translates into a rising international demand specifically for Halal products.
She stated that Halal now is a global industry which represents an exciting opportunity for the Islamic economy to grow more prominent.
As such, Fajardo enjoined potential partners to also back this production to bolster the economy of the city that was once bogged down due to the firefight in 2017.
“Due to this very promising and challenging development of Halal industry, there is really a need for massive Halal industry promotion and development in Marawi… Our concerted efforts can be a springboard in boosting the Muslim trade economy, particularly Halal products, and contribute to the government’s program in promoting the Philippines as an alternate Halal producer,” she said.
Meanwhile, MTIT Director-General Rosslaini Alonto-Sinarimbo said they are backing the Halal industry as they recognize its significant role to make a spike in the economy possible.
She shared that since last year, they have already partnered with the local government as they saw the potential of the products here which are almost all homegrown.
“We hope to rebuild Marawi City through livelihood and business because this is the backbone of the economy. We have to make it a point that businesses come back because these will bring sustainability to the economy,” said Sinarimbo.
The director-general also bared that as part of their support to the city, they allocated P500 million, understanding that the fund of the national government alone will not suffice the total cost of the restoration effort. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
