MWOP’s 7-day trade fair, expo highlights Marawi, LDS MSMEs

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--Local micro, small and medium enterprises here and in the province of Lanao del Sur are given the spotlight in a trade fair and expo during this year’s Marawi Week of Peace.

In line with the commemoration of the 5th anniversary of 2017 Marawi siege, the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) through its Subcommittee on Business and Livelihood consisting of the Department Trade of Industry (DTI) as the chair and development partners as members came to highlight local entrepreneurs for seven days starting Tuesday, May 17 until Monday, May 23.

Raheemah Peace Weavers Producer Cooperative’s Sittie Aishah Baicon Cayongcat Nuska said the trade fair and expo is one of the monthly activities spearheaded by the TFBM’s Subcommittee on Business and Livelihood to gather local entrepreneurs and IDP-led enterprises and give them the chance to showcase their products.

“The primary goal is providing marketing platforms and areas for our traders that they will be given the opportunity to showcase their products and hopefully find opportunities as well to engage with other partners,” she said.

City Mayor Majul Gandamra stated in a relayed message that this initiative underscored one of the prime aspects of the rehabilitation which is the continued undertaking of business entities in the city.

“This particular undertaking is not only a display of peace and resilience within and among the people of the city, but this is a manifestation that although slowly, Marawi is rising again and its people are getting back on their own feet,” he said.

For her part, DTI Special Concerns Undersecretary Ameenah Fajardo emphasized that this event is relevant, especially since it would post a progressing local economy with the various running businesses.

“By showcasing these Maranao products through trade fairs, we can show to the other regions in the Philippines and to the global market as well that we are at least at par with other growing industries,” she said.

In the seven-day trade fair and expo, roughly 30 MSMEs participated to offer their products to visiting citizens. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
