MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--With the recently held two-day Lanao del Sur Business Conference from May 17 to 18 this year, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the province have been highlighted as the cornerstone of a local economy.
“The micro, small and medium enterprises are one of the essential sectors within the society which gives bone to our economy ruling,” said City Mayor Majul Gandamra during the conference.
Gandamra emphasized that without the MSMEs, the city would struggle to recover from the adversities brought by both the five-month-long siege and the worldwide health crisis caused by the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19.
He further magnified the sector as the lifeblood of any locality as there can be minimal to no movement in the city’s economy without their presence.
UN Resident Coordinator Mindanao Representative Stean Tshiband strengthened the claim as he added that it is the MSME sector that provides various opportunities for the survival of the day-to-day living of members of communities.
He stressed that the sector serves as the means to also advocate for oneness among everyone else.
“MSMEs are a key sector to development. MSMEs are the key sector that provide employment, deal with business on the ground… There is no other sector that can bring people together but business. That is where people can learn to interact with each other, strengthen and solidify the relationships that they had already, and learn to live together as a community,” said Tshiband.
With the given recognition, MSMEs are encouraged to apply their learnings from the conference for the betterment of their respective businesses and the community where they belong.
This, as they were guaranteed support for them to be driven. “Sana ay gamitin natin ang mga natutunan natin dito. Alam ko na ang Marawi City ay bumabangon pa lang kaya kinakailangan natin ng suporta from different sectors of society, most especially the national government. Ang inyong lokal na pamahalaan ay laging nandito upang sumuporta sa inyo,” said Gandamra. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
