OPAPRU advances peace in Marawi thru sessions, conversations

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--The Office of Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) continues to forward peace in the city as they carry on their peace sessions and conversations.

In time for the celebration of Marawi Week of Peace (MWOP) to commemorate the anniversary of the start of the siege here in 2017, OPAPRU lined up a series of activities including peace sessions with youth and women internally displaced persons (IDPs).

OPAPRU Social Healing and Peacebuilding Department Director Vanessa Pallarco stated that this will serve as a means to deepen their understanding of the essence of upholding and retaining peace.

“This is to further engage our community and bigyan ng kahalagahan iyong kanilang contribution doon sa pagbuo ng ating kultura ng pangkapayapaan, lalo na ngayong MWOP [give significance to their contribution which makes the culture of peace, especially that we are having MWOP],” she said.

Aside from the said sessions, the OPAPRU likewise spearheaded peace conversations wherein among the involved parties were the youth and siege hostage survivors.

Pallarco shared that it is in this way that target participants were given their moment to be connected with the government through the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM).

“Peace conversation serves as a platform for communities on their status, wherein they can also share iyong kanilang mga [their] narratives, and out of that, we draw recommendations that we also bring sa [to the] TFBM,” she said.

With the week-long observance of the MWOP, the OPAPRU remains optimistic to carry out its goals through continuous efforts.

“Rest assured that the OPAPRU along with its expanded mandate will really try its best to sustain the efforts… We also look forward in engaging na mas magkaroon ng malalim na partisipasyon ang ating mga sektor gaya ng mga kababaihan at kabataan [to deepen the participation of our sectors like women and the youth],” said Pallarco.
