MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--In line with the celebration of the weeklong Marawi Week of Peace (MWOP), the city schools division here has lined up a series of activities that all carried the banner of peace.
City Schools Division Superintendent Anna Zenaida Unte-Alonto shared that as the Department of Education (DepEd) has been an active member and partner agency of the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM), they eagerly posted their events to join in this year’s observance of the week of peace.
Among the activities conducted by the schools division were the Brigada Linis which intended to clean the premises of the schools in the city, a mural painting, and an on-the-spot painting contest.
“This is a convergence of different learners of all grade levels to showcase what it is that they have felt at the time of the siege, manifested in the painting that they will be doing,” said Alonto.
Meanwhile, the superintendent recognized its partner organizations that helped in realizing their events, such as the Save the Children which has been its greatest partner, recalling that at the height of the siege, it was them who immediately provided temporary tents to be a transitory school for displaced learners.
“We would like to thank from the deepest part of our hearts our different partners because the Department of Education cannot do it alone. We need partners and participation of interagency in the delivery of quality education,” said Alonto.
She also stressed that there is no normal delivery of education in Marawi unless all students are transitioned into regular permanent schools (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
