BARMM, MSU implement flexible work hours during Ramadan

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is implementing modified working hours during the holy month of Ramadan to give ample time for Muslim workers in the region to prepare food for the daily breaking of the fast.

In BARMM Memorandum Circular 0051 dated April 1, 2022, Chief Minister Ahod “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim said Muslim officials and employees may report for work at 7:30 a.m. and may go home at 3:30 p.m.

“The flexible working hours from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for the month of Ramadan shall be allowed to Muslim officials and employees who will observe fasting during the period,” the memorandum said.

It also emphasized that there shall be no diminution in the 40-hour workweek required under the Civil Service Law and Rules under these modified working hours.

“After the celebration of Eid’l Fitr (end of fasting), the employee or official shall revert to their respective regular working hours,” the memorandum further stated.

Meanwhile, the Mindanao State University is also observing the modified working hours for the duration of Ramadan. Its Muslim employees are also excused from work from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Fridays for the JumuÊ¿ah prayer.

Ramadan is observed for 29 or 30 days before the Muslims celebrate Eid’l Fitr. For this year, Ramadan started on April 3 and will end on May 2. Fasting during Ramadan starts before the break of dawn and ends at sunset or with the call of Maghrib prayer. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
