MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--Residents of Kalungunan village in Piagapo town here in the province were thankful for the various services brought by the government to their village through the Piagapo local government unit (LGU) and the Army's 51st Infantry Battalion (IB).
Soraida Campo, a mother of seven, said the free medical consultation and medicines are a big help to them as they no longer need to travel to the health center which is far from their barangay just to avail of such services.
Another mother said she is thankful for the medical services as it helped her save money that otherwise would have been spent on renting a motorcycle had she taken her child to the town center.
"I am thanking them for bringing the services here. This is a big service to us especially those with children,' said Salimah Basher in Meranaw dialect.
LGU Piagapo through its Rural Health Unit in partnership with Army and Philippine National Police conducted recently an outreach program in Barangay Kalungunan, one of the remote and roadless villages of Piagapo.
Putting a premium on social services, the outreach program is anchored on the government's peace and order agenda which pays special attention to far-flung and isolated communities which are vulnerable not only to poverty but also to the exploitation and recruitment of local terrorists groups.
During the outreach, 200 sacks of rice and hygiene kits were distributed to the residents. Moreover, 145 individuals including senior citizens, lactating mothers, and newborn kids were provided with free medical consultation and medicines, 25 were served with free haircuts, and 35 were circumcised. Children were also given bags that contain school supplies and toys.
Punong Barangay Salahoden Abduljabbar is grateful to LGU Piagapo and the security forces for choosing Barangay Kalungunan as the beneficiary of the community outreach program. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
