Former DI members urge comrades to return to fold of law

PIAGAPO, Lanao del Sur--Following their successful yield to the authority, former members of the Dawlah Islamiyah - Maute Group (DI-MG) strongly called on their comrades who are still on the side of the terrorist group to surrender and return to the fold of law.

Alias Abu Mus-ab who was a former recruit of the local terrorist group urged people connected to extremism to submit themselves already like he did.

He bared that he was promised of going to paradise in the next life if he would go with the DI-MG.

Mus-ab shared that he decided to surrender with his eagerness to clean his name, in addition to the struggle in everything that he would do as experienced when he had not yet surrendered.

[Right now, it is better because I can go anywhere and I can do whatever I want… I hope they will also surrender to clear their case so that they can live properly.]

Another former recruit alias Sam likewise reiterated the appeal to make the remaining members of the group surrender.

[ISIS and Muslims are really different. I am thankful that I was able to surrender and clear my name. I am already happy. It is more wonderful if you are here and your life is better here compared to when you are inside. It is cold there. You would not know where your enemies are. They would just suddenly chase you… Surrender already so that your lives will be better.]

Sam stated that he was only forced to join the extremist group by men in black who convinced him that he would have a better future with them around.

Meanwhile, alias Saidi who was once a DI-MG supporter further extended the call to convince extremist-associated people to surrender, saying that what they were guaranteed was a lie and far from the truth.

According to him, he was promised as well that a paradise would await him if he backed the group but when he had given his support by pointing out things that members could get even without permission from the owners, he only realized that if everything was true, why would the group continue hiding and doing their moves discreetly.

Sana lahat tumungo sa maganda,” said Saidi.

[That is why I went here [to surrender] to prove to myself that it is bad to connect with [the DI-MG] because youths like me, their lives will only be destroyed. We did not know that it is bad to help them. Now, we already know. We will not help them anymore… I hope what happened to us will serve as an example. I hope everyone will be led to betterment.]

Mus-ab, Sam and Saidi were just three of the two members and 49 supporters of the DI-MG who appeared before the officials of 103rd Infantry Brigade and 51st Infantry Battalion, and Piagapo municipal vice mayor Ali Sumandar Monday, April 11, to manifest their return to the government fold.
