BARMM to work double-time on vax drives

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--To boost the implementation of the Covid-19 vaccination in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the Ministry of Health (MOH) will double its efforts in preparation for the special inoculation program next month.

On Tuesday, April 12, the MOH called for a coordination meeting with the Bangsamoro Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 to plan out strategies to ramp up vaccination on the way to population protection before the end of June 2022.

The meeting was also intended to strengthen the cooperation among MOH and its partners including the development sector to increase vaccination uptake in the region.

BARMM's OIC Health Minister Dr. Zul Qarneyn Abas said the fight against Covid-19 needs a multi-sectoral approach and engagement from all stakeholders of the society, hence the special vaccination drive will be an expanded partnership of BARMM ministries and offices, including development partners and local non-government organizations.

“Beating Covid-19 cannot be attained by MOH alone, it should be a multi-stakeholder approach because each partner has crucial and unique roles in influencing the public to get vaccinated,” he said.

MOH Director-General Dr. Amirel Usman reaffirmed the important role of all sectors in expanding the advocacy for vaccination against Covid-19.

"We can't return to the safest normal we can imagine for ourselves, our families, and our community if we don't try hard enough to convince the unvaccinated to get their shots. This time, we need all hands on deck,"  he said. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
