Marawi biz opens job opportunities to SHS grads

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--More job opportunities were opened to senior high school graduates here with the business enterprises in the city joining the government in providing employment during this month’s Kawiyagan led by the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM), local government unit and partners from March 27 to 29 this year.

Among the present establishments delivering job vacancies were Créme Top, Haven Coffee and Tea, Curly Frost, Soti Fuel and those that went through the local government’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

Marawi City Schools Division (MCSD) Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Sobaida Diron Ampuan said the job fair was made exclusive to senior high school graduates to give them full opportunity to hunt for their own preferred job as in the last conducted event, they were not given much attention with the hiring opened to residents in the city.

As such, business enterprises expressed their support by posting available positions at the fair.

Haven Coffee and Tea store owner Allan Enrique detailed a group of employees from the city hall invited him over to the job fair and since he was coincidentally needing staff, he participated, carrying with him his vision of contributing at the same time a critical help to the city government which is employment.

“Isa sa adbokasiya ng store namin na makatulong sa city government, na mabigyan ng trabaho ang unemployed [people] dito sa Marawi City, especially doon sa mga affected sa siege… Kung gusto niyo, magtry kayo magwork sa mga store or any restaurant or establishment which are offering to working student para makaexperience kayo. Come and visit Haven Coffee and Tea. See the place and environment, and decide for yourself kung gusto niyo magwork sa amin,” he said.

One of the advocacies of our store is to help the city government, that unemployed [people] here in Marawi City will be given jobs, especially those affected by the siege… If you want, you can try working in stores offering to working students so that you can experience. Come and visit Have Coffee and Tea. See the place and environment, and decide for yourself if you want to work with us.]

Enrique shared that currently, he has already employed 20 applicants.

Meanwhile, Créme Top store manager Jawirah Macala shared that they had their store in the fair so that out-of-school youths and those who cannot pursue college programs yet would have the chance to have a source of income wherein they can generate savings.

“Sa mga gusto magtrabaho, ang Créme Top ay willing na iaccept kayo hangga’t kaya namin. Gusto namin kayong tulungan so mag-apply kayo sa Créme Top o sa ibang businesses para matulungan kayo sa paghahanap-buhay, especially doon sa mga nangangailangan talaga ng trabaho,” she said.

[To those who want a job, the Créme Top is willing to accept you until we can. We want to help you so you should apply at Créme Top or in other businesses so that you will be helped in terms of employment, especially for those who are really in need of it.

Macala bared that they have not yet employed any applicant on the spot but they already have two prospects who they think have a greater chance to be hired.

With the successful organization of the job fair, at least 50 learners from Marawi City National High School, Angoyao National High School, and Lake Lanao National High School were anticipated to benefit. (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Sur)
