IDPs in Sagonsongan TS enjoy medical aid of Rotary

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Internally displaced persons (IDPs) currently situated in Sagonsongan Transitory Shelter in Brgy. Sagonsongan here enjoyed the medical services extended by the Rotary community.

This December, the Rotary Districts 3870 and 3830 with the support of Rotary International, the Philippine Army, and the local government spearheaded a health caravan bringing in free medical consultation, provision of medicines, circumcision, and toy-giving for children.

Being one of those who received some of the health services, IDP Jamal Hajinoor Macabada expressed his gratefulness to the Rotary for delivering vital medical necessities in his village.

He stated that this was already a significant aid as they did not have to shell out to avail of their desired services.

“Nagpapasalamat kami kasi may dumating dito sa aming barangay. Maraming tao ang natulungan… Masaya ako kasi libre,” said Macabada.

[We are thankful because this came in our barangay. A lot of people were helped… I am happy because this is free.]

Another IDP Hidaya Abubacar was also delighted as many of her family members were assisted with the medical consultation.

Apart from this, she shared that they were provided with free medicines as well.

“Nagpapasalamat kami sa Rotary kasi nagamot kami lahat ng magkakapamilya. Nagpapasalamat din kami sa Rotary kasi nabigyan nila kami ng gamot at hindi na kami magpoproblema sa gamot,” said Abubacar.

[We are thankful to Rotary because my family was treated. We are also thankful to Rotary because they gave us medicines and we will no longer have a problem with the medicines.]

For her part, IDP Noraima Amen conveyed her glee with her two children and one grandchild receiving a basic healthcare service.

She stressed that this was an advantage to her considering that queuing at public centers would take them much time before they could even have their turn for a medical check-up.

“Masaya kami kasi nakapacheck-up ang mga anak at apo ko. Nang marinig kong may pacheck-up dito, talagang pumunta ako dito,” said Amen.

[We are happy because my two kids and grandchild had a check-up. When I heard about this, I really came here.]

After a day of health caravan, at least 906 residents in Sagonsongan Transitory Shelter benefitted from the offered medical services. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
