MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The local government unit (LGU) here underscored that the Marawi Response Project (MRP) implemented since 2018 has poured out a significant contribution to the recovery of the devastated living of the impacted residents.
Abulkhair Alibasa, head of the City Community Affairs Office, testified that the Plan International Philippines and United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which were the benefactors behind the project, have successfully moved the lives of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the city as they have been handed over different types of aid to cover the necessary aspects of survival.
He attested that after four years of pursuing the undertaking which was majorly centered on economic development and social cohesion, target beneficiaries received varying degrees of benefits to start up their livelihood, entrepreneurship, community improvement, and social unity, among others.
Taking into account the vital assistance extended, Alibasa expressed his delight and gratitude to the sponsor organizations.
“We are more than grateful for your continuous support and presence here in the City of Marawi. We are forever indebted to all your efforts that you have brought to the City of Marawi,” he said.
Alibasa also hoped that in the next years to come, Plan International and USAID would remain to carry on their mission to become part of the full healing of the IDPs, and the restoration of the glory of the Islamic city.
“What happened in Marawi a few years ago marked a long-lasting scar on the lives of our people. However, these organizations eased our pain and helped us to stand on our feet again. Please continue what you have started, and let us all see Marawi rise from the ashes of the past and see it spread its wings to fly to progress,” he said.
Marawi has been part of the coverage of the MRP alongside the other 20 municipalities in Lanao del Sur province, three municipalities in Lanao del Norte province, as well as Iligan City. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
