MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The Lanao del Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) bared that at least four municipalities in the province were flooded, bringing a total of 31 villages and 2,177 households impacted by the non-stop heavy rains since December 24 this year.
Among the reported hit localities were the towns of Taraka wherein 12 barangays including ten schools and two madrasahs were deluged, Maguing with its nine barangays flooded, and Tamparan and Mulondo each having five barangays dipped in floodwater.
PDRRMO Chief Shaminoden Sambitory stressed that they have been continuously monitoring the situation together with the local DRRM offices established in different localities and since then, no major records such as fatalities and marred infrastructures have yet been logged.
“So far, wala namang reported na damages sa structures o public establishments at roads. We are very grateful na walang reported casualties,” he said during the PDRRM Council’s 4th regular meeting Tuesday, December 27.

Sambitory detailed that starting at the onset of the downpour, the Provincial Emergency Operation Center, including those in 40 component municipalities, remained activated to keep watch and manage the ongoing disaster in their respective areas of responsibility.
He further noted that early warning was also delivered to constituents.
With the tallied flooded places and families, Sambitory shared that the local DRRM offices already started assisting in the disaster response wherein trapped residents were rescued.
Post-disaster assessment and analysis were conducted as well to evaluate the aftermath of the calamity.
“Sa ngayon, hinihintay natin ang detailed reports para makita rin natin kung ano ang damages at needs na nag-aarise doon sa mga affected area,” said Sambitory.
[For now, we are waiting for the detailed reports so that we can see the damages and needs arising in the affected areas.]
Apart from the swamped towns and families, the PDRRMO likewise revealed that the farmland and livestock in Maguing town and over one hectare of crops in Taraka town amounting to P1 million were also damaged.
