MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The Philippines Marines dismantled an encampment of Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group (DI-MG) in Marogong town, this province, and recovered bomb-making materials and firearms.
LtCol. Sergio Ronquillo III, commander of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-2, said they conducted a major operation against the DI-MG that led to the discovery of the bomb-making site and recovery of war materials, subversive documents, and explosives.
He said they also discovered fabrication machines and other machines used in making improvised explosive devices.
“The objective of the operation was to destroy the lair of DI-Maute Group so that they could no longer sow atrocities in the province of Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte and prevent another disastrous conflict,” Ronquillo said during the 4th quarter Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting on December 14.
He underscored that the significance of the operation was the derailment of the bomb-making activity of the DI-MG.
“Rest assured that the 1st Marine Brigade and 103rd Infantry Brigade will remain committed to neutralizing the remnants of the DI-Maute group,” the marine commander said. (APB/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
