LDS prov’l dev’t council OKs POPS plan for 2023-2025

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Following the finalized draft of written undertakings intending to secure peace and public safety in the entire province, the Lanao del Sur Provincial Development Council (PDC) approved the Peace and Order and Public Safety (POPS) Plan for 2023-2025.

Getting no objections from the quorum, Vice Governor Mohammad Khalid Raki-in Adiong who presided over the second semester meeting of the council ratified the presented plan.

Anna Rakim of the Provincial Peace and Development Office (PPDO) expounded that the POPS plan is pursuant to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Memorandum Order No. 2011-24 which provides for the duties and functions of the Peace and Order Council, including the formulation of such a plan.

“This is a three-year term base plan which consists of programs and activities to promote the peace and public safety plan in a particular locality, and integrated area or community,” she said.

Rakim further shared that the plan is guided by its sectoral goal which strongly banners for peace through lawful initiatives to achieve an inclusive society by the year 2040.

“By 2040, communities in Lanao del Sur will enjoy peace and harmony as citizens engage more fully in community development, recognizing the efforts made by the provincial government towards inclusion and reaching out to the most vulnerable,” she said.

Rakim disclosed that the POPS plan would specifically address crime and disorder, illegal drugs, conflicts, violent extremism, road safety, and threats to the environment and human security.

She stated that the drafting of this happened on November 7 to 11 this year through the joint leadership of the provincial government here and the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) of the Bangsamoro region. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
