MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The recently dismantled fort of the Dawlah Islamiyah-inspired Maute Group (DI-MG) in Marogong town in Lanao del Sur province is believed to crucially hamper the chance of the terrors to make bombs for skirmishes.
The 1st Marine Brigade revealed during the 4th quarter Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting that this was truly one of their objectives in pursuing such an operation.
“The significance of this operation was the derailment of their bomb-making capability,” said Marine Battalion Landing Tea (MBLT)-2 Commander Lt.Col. Sergio Ronquillo III.
Apart from thwarting the bomb-making opportunity, Ronquillo further stated that they also intended to finally destroy the lairs of the DI-MG to finally eliminate the local terrorists in Marawi City and across the provinces of Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur.
He stressed that it is to prevent the occurrence of another tragic warfare, similar to what ensued in 2017.
Ronquillo earlier reported that the marines together with the 103rd Infantry Brigade and other government forces successfully raided a training camp and bomb-making site of the DI-MG.
This focused military operation resulted in the retrieval of bomb-making paraphernalia, including the two-kilo fertilizer, more than 60 pcs 81mm mortar fuse, fabrication machine, and other improvised explosive devices.
Notwithstanding the incident in Marogong town and other security threats, both the 1st Marine Brigade and 103rd Infantry Brigade maintained that Lanao del Sur province remains generally peaceful and manageable as of the current time. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
